UBC Chemo

A legendary British Columbian born and bred strain, UBC Chemo is a pure indica with fascinating origins. Sometimes simply referred to as “Chemo”, this strain was allegedly developed by the famed Candian environmental activist and scientist, David Suzuki, at the University of British Columbia back in the 60s to 70s. It is said it was created for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, and to help them handle the side effects of treatment. Since then, many other breeders have carried on the tradition in growing this BC plant, though it can be a rare find. While its origin story traces back to David Suzuki during his time at the University of British Columbia, one of the nation’s top academic institutions, today it is considered a clone only plant, and current breeders who continue its legacy include professional growers at BC Bud Depot, Federation Seeds and Jordan of the Islands.

Appearance & Aroma

UBC Chemo is considered a rarity in a multitude of ways, including its standout appearance, which many consider to resemble a bonsai, which is a Japanese miniature tree plant and style, bred and cultivated to resemble large scale trees. These nugs are round, and because they are so densely packed, can be stiff or hard at the touch. Its pistils are very long and wiry, and come in a dark, amber orange hue. With varying shades of light to dark greens, it is covered in large speckles of darker purples, and is highly resinous, with many fine crystal white trichomes giving it a frosty appearance. This strain is quite fragrant, and is delightfully so. While it can be pungent, its stronger aromas also include an earthy pine that is nice and fresh. Upon smoking, there is a slight citrus sweetness that is complemented by notes of herbs and florals!
